HOW TO CHOOSE A RESUME WRITING SERVICE:

  • Avoid resume companies or resume writers that make false advertisements and false truths that cannot be guaranteed (such as job placement).  Many of these services cannot be guaranteed,  It is not possible to guarantee a job.  A  resume is a tool used to get you (the applicant) in front of the interviewer.  Those claims would be equivalent to taking a defensive driving course and being guaranteed that after the course you will never get into an accident.  It is just  not possible!
  • Avoid Companies that offer 100% money back guarantee if you do not get a job.  If you check out the terms and conditions, you will not be able to comply nor will they!
  • Be Careful!! Many companies deliver nothing more than template designed, formatted resumes.  These resumes are sub-par and not an efficient tool for grabbing a potential employers attention.  At The PROPER Resume, I will put care and concern into developing the right resume for you.
  • Be weary of low-end providers offering resumes at $99 or less with 24 hour turn-around time.  This means their writers are writing 8-12 resumes per day and rushing through the process.  A good resume takes hours to write and even the best writers produce only 1-3 resumes per day depending on the length, experience and the style of resume the applicant is seeking.  They take the time to understand you and good resumes take more than 24 hours to prepare. Your resume is THE MOST IMPORTANT document in your career and should not be rushed.
  • Avoid sites with lack of samples on their website.  Look at their samples.  If you don’t like their samples, you surely won’t like their work. Look to see if they are focusing on skills and accomplishments as opposed to producing pretty resumes that just list job duties. Also look to see if they are using creative techniques and highlights to make your resume stand out from the crowd.
  • How does their website look? If they cannot organize their web site and make it look attractive, then they can’t do that for your resume.
  • Do they offer a guarantee?  A good service will stand behind their work and offer to revise your resume for free if it is not working. You’ll want to choose a resume writing service that stands behind their product. Make sure they guarantee your satisfaction.
  • Call the resume writing company yourself and make sure you speak to the person who will be writing YOUR RESUME.  Not a sales rep!! Personalized, eye catching resumes cannot be written from a questionnaire alone.  A good resume writing company will want to speak with you so they can ask questions that allow them to get a good sense or feel about you so the resume can be customized and personal.  A resume is a personal experience and should always have a personalized value to it.
  • And finally make sure the writer has an impressive background.  Many sites won’t tell you anything about who is writing your resume.  Good, creative, organized writers have good credentials. Find out about their business background. Did they attend a good school?  Did they rise through the business ranks?
